NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Owing to tho heavy rain in. the y early: morning, play in tho North Island croquet championship tourney was not resumed yesterday until 1 p.m., but a' satisfactory number of games was got through before dark. ,
The final of tha championship doubles between Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithley and Mrs. Gardner and Mr; Windsor-Bichards, resumed from the previous night, drew a big crowd, but the play was most disappointing. Mrs. Gambrill was tlie only one to make a break, and this, and a hoop run by Mr. Windsor-Bichards from a position fully 33ft away, were the only bright spots in tho game, which finished 26-1(5 in favour of Mrs. Gardner and Mr; Windsor-Eichards. ,Iri tho open championship (two out of three) in the five games completed yesterday in each case tho winners took them with two straight games. Open Championship.—Mrs. Caldow beat Mrs. Boyne, 26-10, 20-18; Mrs. Calrtow boat Mre. Walker, 26-12, 26-6} Mrs. Lowery beat Mrs. M'Uroy, 26-21, 26-3; Mrsi Jarvio beat Mrs. GnmbrUl, 26-12, 26-24; Mr. W. Windsor-Richards .beat Mrs. Lowery, 26-2, 26-19.
Ladies' Championship.—First life: Mrs. Brown beat Mrs^ Watkin, 26-17. Second life: Mrs. Fihlayson beat Mrs. Leadbeater, 26-23; Mrs. Mouat beat Mrs. Horn, 26-20; Mrs. Gardner beat Mrs. Sedge wick, 26-4; Miss M'Farlane beat Mrs. Jarvie, 26-8. Handicap Singles.—Mrs. Heymanson beat Mrs. Gibbs. 26-14; Mrs 'Poison beat Mrs. Oolley' 28-21; Mrs. Caldow ibeat Mrs, Moelier, 26-3.
