SHEARERS' AWARD

PALMERSTON N., This Day. In an application before the Arbitration Court some shearing contractors of Feilding sought to have Levin and Company, Ltd., added as a-party to the Wellington Shearers and Shed Hands' Award. The firm objected on the grounds that they were working under the Wool/Hides, Grain and Produce Store Employees' Award. The firm's representative said that the men who were employed as shed hands were also called upon to do any other work required. The employees received more than the award rates. The wool-pressers aid not receive shearing, rates, as they might only be engaged on, that particular work for a few hours per day. "This is a unique case," said Mr. Justice Frazer. "The award has been framed to deal with ordinary shearing, teams visiting farms. This seems to bo a case of special- conditions."
