SUIT CASE MYSTERY

SCOTLAND YARD ACTIVE

WOMAN'S DIARY POUND

(Received 13th November, 10 a.m.)

LONDON, 12th November. In connection with the mystery of the suitcase, in which charred, remains were found, detectives questioned Mrs. Eva Prescott, residing in the village of Yarkhill, Herefordshire, concerning a diary found in the suitcase with the bones of a woman. She said that how her diary came to be in the place where they found it was a mystery. "The diary must have been stolen and used deliberately to involve me by someone with a spite against me," she added. _ Scotland Yard is preserving a stolid silence on the suitcase mystery, replying to inquiries to the effect that there will be no statement till investigations are completed. An Australian Press Association representative ascertained that Mrs. Prescott visited Britain with the object of meeting Chancery litigation. She declared that someone was endeavouring to defeat her claim, and instructed her solicitor to contest the case. The people whom she confided her plans to wero of opinion that worry seriously upset her.

It is gathered that the best brains of Scotland Yard have hitherto been unable to decide whether the charred bones are associated with a recent murder. It is significant that the Chief Inspector, having exhausted his inquiries at Yarkhill, is concentrating on London with a view of deciding the ownership of the suitcase and the articles in it.
