THISTLE 3, SWIFTS 0.
Although Swifts were beaten by Thistle by three goals to nil in an interesting game at Wakefield Park, they put UP a good fight. jExcept for a time m the second spell, Thistle dominated the game, play was always even, and Swifts were unlucky jn npt being able to make the score closer than it was. The' kiqk-off was taken by Thistle, whp faced the sun. Swifts made the pace from the start, launching a series of attacks on the Thistle goal, which, however, remained intact owing to the somewhat erratic tactics of the Swifts' forwards in the goal-mouth and to good play on the part of Kirkland. Thistle were playing a less spectacular and more solid game. Territorially Swifts held the advantage, but the Thistle ataeks were more effective. One such movement resulted in Whyte, the inside left, scoring the first goal. Thistle I, Swifts 0. Swifts maintained their;aggressive play, but could not score. Thistle scored within a minute from the kick-off in the second spell. Bridge put in a beautiful shot, hard and low, from well out on the left wing, and Stone failed to stop it. Thistle 2, Swifts 0. Swifts could not keep to the pace they had made in the first spell, and Thistle took the upper hand. Their third goal came shortly afterwards, Tavendale scoring from close range. Swifts rallied, and fpr a short time were dangerous. They soon relapsed, and play till the end of the match was comparatively dull, Thistle adding no more to their score of three against Swifts nu. The referee was Mr. H. Thorne.
