BROOKLYN AND SOUTH WELLINGTON.

A hard-fought game between Brooklyn and South Wellington, at Wakefield Parfc, on Saturday, resulted in a draw, each side scoring two goals. Play was very even, and the respective merits of the teams were fairly indicated by the score. From the start Brooklyn, running with the sun, nearly scored, the shot bitting the crossbar. The South Wellington forwards were a fast and aggressive lot, and for a while they forced the pace. On at least three occasion? they appeared to have- a certain goal, but each time they failed, for the Brooklyn defence was sound and the goalkeeper was doing excellent wprk, South Wellington's efforts were rewarded at last when Waugh received from" Stewart and had no difficulty in scoring from close in. South Wellington 1, Brooklyn 0. Brooklyn pressed strongly, aiid. within, a very few minutes had equalised, Anton forcing the ball through from a scramble in the goal-mouth. South Wellington 1, Brooklyn 1. Both sides were striving to take the lead, but they were evenly matched, and throughout the rest of the spell play changed regularjy from one end of the field to the other. One-all was. the socre at half-time. Another long stretch of up-and-down E]ay marked the beginning of the second alf. Determined efforts by Brooklyn, who were playing better than in the firgt spell, resulted in Jones, the right-winger, placing his side in the lead. Brooklyn 8, South Wellington I. Heartened by their success, the Brooklyn men;made great efforts to improve their position. But South Wellington were equal to them, and about ten minutes before the end M'Millan put an easy shot through, just out of Kershaw's reach, to make the final score: Brooklyn 2, South Wellington 2. Mr. H. W. Smith was the referee.
