SENIOR A

A DRAWN GAME,

Fast ■ and interesting hockey was witnessed in the match between Wellington and V.M.C.A. at Karori. Although the ground was somewhat greasy, the general standard of play was high, both teams working at full pressure throughout. At half time V.M.C.A. had registered the only goal, and it was not until well on in the second., spell that Wellington netted, and evened the, scores. Both teams then settled down to hard work, and the play became very fast. A number of penalty corners were given against V.M.C.A., but no further score was made, the match resulting in" a draw. . Play centred about the half-way line for some time' after the opening bully, but it then began to fluctuate, considerably, both teams defending well. Ferguson, who figured so prominently in the match against Wesley, netted for V.M.C.A. with a smart shot from the centre of the circle. The score resulted from a combined movement by the V.M.C.A. forwards and a smart centre by Lightfoot. V.M.C.A. continued to have the upper hand until half-time. When play was resumed Wellington commenced with a fast attack, and were well supported by their halves, particularly Mahoney, who placed the ball very well. The defence held, and even play continued until halfway through the spell, when K. Lusty broke away from' half-way, and after evading three or four V.M.C.A. players shot a good goal,' thus evening matters with V.M.C.A. ■ Mr. W. A. Scott was the referee.
