A marked improvement in the general standard of play was very noticeable in most of the hockey games on Saturday, in spite of the fact that some of the grounds were very slippery. Of the senior matches, the most interesting was the hard-fought duel hetween V.M.C.A. and Wellington, which resulted in a draw. ' Hutt proved themselves too good for Karori, winning by 2 goals to 1, and Wesley beat Petone by 5 goals to nil. The University A and B teams did not play each other owing to the absence of the senior team at the contest for the Seddon Stick at the annual tournament at Christchurch..
