MIDLAND AND KILBIRNIE.
Some more high scoring was witnessed on the Kilbirnie Reserve on Saturday, when the match between Midland and Kilbirnie was concluded, Midland gaining a three-point win. At the close o£ the first day's play Midland had lost five wickets for 232 in reply to Kilbirnie's score of 162. Doneghue and Turvey continued on Saturday, and the total was carried to 266 before Turvey went. Doneghue carried on in attractive fashion," and when only 6 runs off his double, century had the misfortune to be caught -when attempting to make them in one hit. Of his 194 he made 130 on the first day,'the remaining 64 being got in very quick time. Tn order to get a four-point win if possible, Midland declared when the'score was 349 for nine wickets, but a splendid partnership between W. Christophersen and Harris in Kilbirnie's second innings prevented them succeeding. Kilbirnie again did not commence too ' well, and Monkhouso, Ward, and Hepburn were out with the- board showing only 53. It looked as if Midland had the game well in hand, but Christophersen and Harris upset calculations. Scoring was apparently very slow before the tea ad- „ journment, but it brightened up consider ably aftewards, and Christophersen ran to 50 in exactly one hour. His half-century included eleven 4's. Both batsmen "played bright cricket, and their fourth wicket partnership, which realised 198 runs, gave the score a great lift, though unfortunately it was a little too late in the game to be of much use. Harris made exactly 100 before being bowled by Lawton. Christophersen when at 136 was brilliantly held on the boundary by Patrick, who caught the ball at arm's length while running in. Kilbirnie had no difficulty: in playinc out time, more especially when the Midland captain gave them some assistance by giving every man in his team a turn with the ball.
