Th» shipowners are determined that the Waterside Workers' Award shall be obeyed. They have anticipated the trouble for many weeks and the oversea and inter-State companies have now joined forces. They have refused to grant tho Waterside Federation a conference because the basis of the discussion is the old award. Legal proceedings will be taken against any. branch of the union which resists tho second daily pick-up. The owners have written to the federation expressing a hope that the federation will withdraw from the position it has taken up.
