THE MELLUS MURDER
BUTCHER'S BOY ON TRIAL , ' ■ 'i United Service. -■ - (Received 31st August, 2 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, 30th August. Two grotesque life-sized reproductions of ■ tho body of Myrtle Mellus, whom the police believe to have been murdered by a butcher's boy, friend named Leo Kelly, wore displayed in tho Court where Kelly is on trial for murder. The Court room was filled with women. There were ninety-four abrasions on tho body of the deceased, most of them, tho police believe, having been caused by tho mordant, ferocity of the accused. • Frank - Mellus, husband of. the deceased, testified that he never knew of his wife's clandestine affair with the •family butcher. ' -■'-... The District Attorney submitted three love-letters from Kelly to Mrs. Mellus which indicated that the latter was; growing cold. Tho police theory is that this provided a motivo for the killing.
