In the first set Australia took tho first game on Patterson 'a.sorvico after it went to deuce. Van Byn held his soryico, and the Americans took the second game to lovo. Tho games then alternated with tho service to the sixth, when Van Ryn scored a service ace. Patterson erred twice, and Allison smashed a lob from the net out of rGae.h, Patterson giving tho Americans the sixth game to love. Hawkes won on service, and Allison and Van Ryn made it 4 all by taking the eighth gaino with comparative ease. The Americans were unable to break through Patterson's service, and the Australians won the ninth, after which they forced their way through Van Ryn's service, winning the tenth game and THE SECOND SET. In the second set the Americans ■broke through Hawkes's sorvico to take tho first game, dropping ouly one point, after which the Australians retaliated by breaking through Allison's service to win the second gamo after deuce.
