The Culoden Wishing Well near Inverness, to which several thousand people made a pilgrimage on a recent Sunday, yielded on the Monday nearly £25, made up of silver and copper coins, which had been dropped into the water to secure luck for the year. The money will be given to charities. Another luck-bringer was the attaching of pieces of cloth to trees surrounding the well.
