NEW METHODIST CHURCH
. FOUNDATION-STONE LAID . His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, laid the founda-tion-stone of the new Hataitai Methodist Church in Waitoa road this afternoon. ■ . .. ..It is thirty years since a small Methodist Church was erected on. a site in Moxham avenue, adjoining the ■Kilbiruic School. The building was removed to the present site and enlarged in 1913. It served.both as a church and Sunday school, but is now inadequate and unsuitable to the growing needs of the district. Four years ago, a proposal to erect a new church was enthusiastically taken up by the people. Under the guidance of the Rev. E. T. [ Olds and the Rev. E. S. Emmitt, former ministers of the church, the efforts of | the congregation have resulted in the i splendid sum of approximately £3400 I being raised, including promises of £500 from the Taranaki Street Church trustees;- and £100 from the Donald M'Lea Street Church' trustees. In addition, the Connexial. Building and Loan Fund Committee has offered to loan •... £1000 free of interest, to ibe repaid in ten years. The estimated cost of the new church, including. furnishings, lighting, and heating, is £5000.. Tho sum of £600 is therefore still required, in.order that the church may be opened free of debt, other" than the £1000 loan from the Building and Loan Fund Committee. . . ' •
