LYALL BAY ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the Lyall Bay Progressive, Association was held on Thursday evening, the president, Mr. J. H. BurgoyneThomas presiding. The meeting resolved to call the attention of the tramway traffic manager to the fact that motor-bus .drivers were neglecting to sound a warning signal when passing street intersections. . Mr. W. IV Sherwood drew attention to the dangerous condition of the high level footpath in Tavistock road. He stated I that owing to neglect and the wet weather it was impossible for two persons to walk abreast,( without grave risk of falling over the bank, a drop of from 15 to 30 feet. It was agreed to forward the complaint to the City .Council, and to ask for the protection of a suitable railing. Other requests to be made of the City Council are: Permanent paving of the footpath in. Coutts street, between Ross street and Onepu road; efficient, lighting of the right-of-way between Freyberg street and Palm avenue; better lighting at street intersections. In this connection it was considered that the council should use higher powered globes than those used for ordinary street lighting. . It was resolved to request the^ Civic League to approach the council with the view of obtaining proper control of- pedestrian traffic at the intersections in_ busy streets, and ensure that every facility be given to persons to enable them to cross in safety from one side of the street to the other, especially those with young j children and push-carts. ■ !
