EMPRESS THEATRE.
There is no more popular comedian than Syd. Chaplin. In "The Missing Link," now in session at the Empress Theatre, ho is cast as a tfrald, studious fellow, loathing anything in tho nature of adventure, and with an inborn antipathy to wild animals. It is an ironical twist of fate that sends htm out Into the African jungle as the famous hunter, Lord Dryden; the latter is a woman hater, and, learning that a woman Is planning a great welcome at his African venue, gets Chaplin to impersonate him. In tho African domain of the Braden's leader of Lord Dryden's retinue, many hilarious situations arise from the impersonation. A chimpanzee named Akka, an animal of almost human sagacity, is a member of the Vradcn household, and the timid young man imagines lie is tho Missing Link, which is the object of tho hunt. Akka causes merriment by his antics. Having learned by accident a way of subduing the chimpanzee, tho hero fares forth adventurously into tho jungle, accompanied by Akka, returning with a number of lions in tow. The man and the animals frivol deliclously in a gamo of hide-and-seek in the house. There are adventures with wild animals, culminating in the capture of the real missing link, and tho blossoming of romance between Miss Braden and the pseudo lion killer. The cast Is capable, and no expense has been spared to ensure convincing details. Thero are other supports, and a delightful musical programme is submitted by Mr. Avery's players.
