TARANAKI OIL FIELDS.

The report o£ the Taranaki Oil Fields, Ltd., for the week ended 31st December was as follows: —"Waiapu No. 2 well drilled to 2908 ft in shale; B%in diameter casing to 2890 ft. Gisborne No. 1 well drilled to 2140 ft; B%in diameter casing to 2120 ft. Shale from 1935 ft to 1040 ft, also 1960 ft to 2000 ft, and 2045 ft to 2060 ft, balance Band Samples of snnd between 2000 ft and 2060 ft treated with chloroform show definite traces of oil. Showing of gas from 2060 ft to 2065 ft. Gisborne No. 2 well: Transport somewhat deckyed by i-ain; now nearly ready to commence construction work."
