LONDON PRODUCE PRICES.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 7th January, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—Spot market firmer with active demand at auction. Present quotations are:—Mutton: fine, 41s 6d per cwt; fair to good, 38s 6d to 40s 6d per cwt; dark to dull, 36s to 37s "per cwt. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 39s to 42s per cwt; fair to good, 37s 3d to 39s per cwt; dark to dull, 35s 6d to 36s 6d per cwt. Mixed: Fair to

good, 37s to 3Ss Od per cwt; dark to dull, 35s 6d to 36s per cwt. Gut, etc., 3fe to 36s 6d per cwt. Hemp.—Market is uf a holiday character. Manila market quiet with a tendency easier. "J" grade January/March shipments sold £41. Sisal market quiet. Small business has been done in No. 1 January/March shipments at £37. No.' 2 offered more freely, closing value being £35 10s. New Zealand: Bmall inquiry for spot imd' afloat. Forward shipments neglected. Present values of January/ March shipments are: Highpoints £34 10s, •air £32 10s, and common £32; tow, second grade £21 10s, and third grade £10. Oats. —Market continues quiet with little interest shown in imported. English firm. Supplies of good quality are small, and host, white are making 33s 6d. New Zealand "A" grade January shipments quoted :!3s 6d (nominal in absence of offers). Plate oats for January shipment offered at 24s 9d, and Chilian new crop for I Mat'oh/April shipment sold at 25s 3d. Peas.—-Market quiet. Small demand tor ! new crop maple, buyers having sufficient for .the present New Zealand February/ March shipments sold at 735, and April/ May shipments offered at 72s 6d. English of good quality somewhat scarce, best making t>4s to 60s. Blues neglected. "A" grade Tasmanian February/March shipments offered at £18 5s per ton, e.i.f., without attracting attention. Beans.—Market steady. Good inquiry for English, best dried winter selling at 47s to 495, old crop making 55s Cd. Chinese horse afloat selling at £10 12s 6cl. Danish Cocksfoot.—Market very quiet. Stocks considered small and sellers exp. :?ting higher prices. Nominal value for January shipment £5 to £5 ss, c.i.f. The Bank of N Tew Zealand has received the following advice from its London ofiice as at the close of business last week: —Butter: Quiet; KiOs to lC4s per cwt. Cheese: Quiet; 92s to 945.
