AN EASY WIN.

V.M.C.A. had an easy .win against South Wellington, Young Men winning by- 8 goals to nil. • V The teams were:— Y.M.C.A.T-Bentley; Trott and -M'Girr; Pearson, Ogilvie, and Beaumont; Nicolle, Worth, Rigby, Lack, and Ballard. South Wellington.—Dennis; Currie and Martin; Beadle, Reyling, and Elliott; Mihifie, Swift, Sharp, Bolt, and M'Millan. The game was played on No. 2 ground at the Basin Reserve, and V.M.C.A. had the wind in their favour in the first half. Throughout the spell, they kept South Wellington on the defensive, and rarely did play take place in Souths half. Young • Men showed a superior combination, and never at all were threatened. Within a few minutes of the start, Ballard sent a nice-pass into Rigby, but Martin cleared for South, and sent M'Millan away. The winger got as far as M'Girr, but no further. Again Y.M. pressed, and two cen-. tres from Ballard almost brought results. Nicolle had a try, and sent in a pass, which Rigby promptly, headed over the. cross-bar. The next move came from Bal-. lard, - -whose shot at goal was punched , clear by Dennis. -'• Nicolle immediately sent, the ball back, and again Dennis punched. Two corners followed, but South I cleared, and started anattack which again failed when it reached . the full-baclis. Y.M. kept pressing, and a shot from Nicolle struck the, upright. The South Wellington goal was subjected to, a fusillade of shots, and Dennis spent five busy minutes. Ballard got another opportuuity, and this time made no mistake with the shot. V.M.C.A. 1, South Wellington 0. After this goal, South broke away occa^ sionally, but never seriously threatened the Y.M. goal. The teams changed ends without an interval, but though South were playing with the wind, they could do nothing, and V.M.C.A. kept control of the game. In all, they shot eight, goak, those responsible being Ballard (3), Lack (3), Nicolle, and Worth. ' Mr. B. Martin .waß. the referee.
