PETONE COUNCIL
Those present at the fortnightly meeting of the. Petone Borough Council last night were: The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenfip/l Vr& Cll? 1S ?• M'Carthy, A. Scholefield, EN. Campbell, J. Ashley, J. Cumrmng, W. H. Edwards, W. Jacobson, J. w- Longman, and J. M. Pearson. .- Xhe Borough Engineer (Mr. A. Cowie) in his monthly report.stated that repairs to the footpaths with cold-mix had been held up by bad weather. The Cuba street surfacing had been completed, but at the toe of the ramp, where extra filling had been put on, there were slight signs o£ cracking, due^o the filling.not being sufficiently consolpated. This showed that it would be inadvisable to surface either o£ the ramps meanwhile. The Wilford SettleS,™w r Were ?eariuS completion. Favourable progress had been made with the sewerage extension work, but the Wainui man had proved troublesome along the whole length of Railway parade, ai the connections had to be closely timbered and w/t ? ai S pumged- The consumption of water had eased off considerably, so that one of the pumps was sufficient to maintain the necessary pressure. Building permits for eight dwellings, three shops, and twelve miscellaneous structures to the value of £15 068 had been issued, and the fees collected totalled £50. The total value of the' permits for the current year was £26.253, and the fees £87. The Borough Inspector (Mr. W. B. trough) reported that during the month sewer drains to a total length of 2 09ift were tested and passed.
