LOWER HUTT BOROUGH

TOWN-PLANNING CONFERENCE

The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Jilt-. W. T. Strand (Mayor). Councillors A. M'Bain, W. G. Meldrum. h. Waldie, A. F. Roberts, B. W. Hunt, P. Campbell, A. Grierson, and A. J. Hobbs. A committee of the Mandel Settlement asked the council to support an application from Mr. H. Ingham for a license for a bus service between the Mandel block and the shopping area. The request was granted. The council also approved a proposed change of route for Messrs. J. W. oharpes bus service. _ The engineer (Mr. A. G. Bush) reported that during the month 49 building permits had been issued for buildings to a total value of £27,300. Councillor Hobbs inquired if anything had been done in regard to town planning, and the Mayor replied i;hat a conference of the Lower Hutt Council and adjoining local bodies would be held during the week to discuss a plan which would fit the needs of each district Councillor M'Bain reported that he had met the Central Hutt School Committee, in reference to the proposal that the committee should take over the control of the Western Hutt play area, and the committee had made it quite clear that while they desired to control the area they would not take it over unless the council agreed to make a grant annually to cover the expense of maintenance. The question was referred to the Scenio .Reserves Committee.
