SUBURBAN" ASSOCIATION
The annual social gatheiing of the Wellington Suburban Farmers' Association, took place on Saturday evening, Mr. J. Purchase . presiding. Among those present were the Hon. J. A, Young (Minister of Health), the Hon. K. S. Williams (Minister of Public Works), and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P.
Replying to the toast of: "Parliament," Mr. Field alluded to the legislation affecting the city's milk supply, and said he regretted to hear that there had been some difficulty since last session over the new bylaws, anil trusted it ■ would soon be overcome. Ho thought that every member of the community should be allowed to purchase, if they wished, clean wholesome milk, straight from the farm.
Speaking to the toast of "The Primary Producers," the chairman said that their present position was not a happy one. He criticised the attitude of the chairman of the Dairy Produce Board, Mr. Grounds; so far as it affected the Prime Minister's connection with the trouble which had arisen over the dairy produce control He was of opinion that the Government should have a stocktaking and see exactly where they stood.
The toast of 1 "The Government" was responded to briefly by the Hon. X S Williams and the Hon. J. A.. Young Mr Young congratulated . the farmers on the present satisfactory position of the milk supply so far as cleanliness and quality were concerned. As to bur overseas export trade, if the farmers wished to retain the goodwill of the world's markets they must maintain tho highest possible standard of quality..."
