AUCKLAND, This Day. 'Die announcement that he would contest tho Auckland City Mayoralty was made yesterday by Mr. Harold Schmidt. It is his intention to stand as an independent candidate. So far three candidates have definitely announced their intention of standing. They are tho Mayor. Mr. Gc rge Baildon, the DeputyMayor, Mr. j. A. Varnoek, and Mr. Schmidt. It is also possible (hat Mr. T. Bloodworth may go to the poll as the nominee of tho Labour Part}-. Ho has not yet reached a definite decision, but has accepted the nomination of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee.
