EXAMINING A DRIED MILK FACTORY

The Duke of York expresses a desire to sco some of the industries of tho country, and if possible to meet the people unol'licinlly, Lnsl evening he visited tho Manawatu Club in company with the Mayor (Mr. V. J. Nathan), and spoke informally to the members and .staff for over an hour.
The Duke told the Mayor that he would like to see tho country districts and the condition under which the farmers lived. Ho stated that he had seen a butter factory, but not a dried milk factory, and suggested an early rising in order to inspect one.
lie left the hotel at 7.30 a.m. in the company of the Mayor and journeyed to the dried milk factory at Bun'nythorpe, six miles away. 'Nobody was notilied of the trip until the party was about to set out.
The Duke spoke to all the factory employees, and was extremely, interested in the manufacture of" the milk powder', what tho fanners got, for their milk, and other matters pertaining to the dairying industry.
