LINLITHGOW STAKES

(United Press Association. —Copyright.) (Beccived sth November, 1 p.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day

Commenting on the Linlithgow Stakes, the "Sydney Morning Herald" says:—"lt was an unsatisfactory race from the beginning, 'when, as the barrier was released, Valicarc, Metellus, nnd Palelight ivero associated in a mix-up, but owing to rain it was difficult to see what had happened. It was obvious, howevor, that Amounis was not concerned, for ho jumped out clear and soon had a couple of lengths' advantage. Valicare soon caught up, and at the five-furlong post she was ahead, while Metellug and Palelight were already out of the picture. It wap. anticipated that if Amounis was within striking distance of Valicare at the turn it would make the finish interesting, but, to the surprise of many, Valicare made it easy for him. She ran off the course coming into the straight, while Amounis finished as straight as possible, and won easily by four lengths. The race proved that Amounis was never in better heart, and was always going nicely. Ho came home well, notwithstanding a -strong wind against him and that rain fell while the event was being run." The "Daily Telegraph" says: — "Valicare ran the worst race of. her career, "it was generally the expressed opinion that her want of a run and the fact that it was her fir I race on a left-handed track, brought about her defeat."
