COMPULSORY STATISTICS
(Received 2nd Novomber, 2.45 p.m.) LONDON, Ist November.
Mr. Bruce and Mr. Coates are closely, watching tlio proposal discussed by the Economic Sub-Committee for a compulsory and periodic issue of statistics of supplies and consumption of wool, including dealers and textile users' holdings. It may bo taken for granted that Australia, New Zealand, and. South Africa will not accept the plan unless there is a guarantee of international observance through a body similar to tho Borne International Grain Bureau. Tho same problem arises in regard to cold storage statistics, because, while it is easy to ascertain British ports' storages and the Dominlions are probably willing to follow New Zealand's system of regularly issuing figures relating to shipments and carcasses in store, it would be valueless unless statistics are available of North and South American activities. The Economic Sub-Committee has been asked to devote special attention to the international aspect. .
