LULL IN PROCEEDINGS

(Received 2nd November, 3 p.m.)

LONDON, Ist November

Most of the main items of tho lin* perial Conference agenda have now boon remitted to sub-committees, consequently something approaching a lull marks tlie opening of the third week. For instance, there will be no plenarysession till Thursday, when Imperial defence will be debated by the Dominion delegates. After tho week-end the conference is likely to bogin a discussion on. the resolutions.

The general opinion is that the work will not be completed much before 10th November. Having learned all tho facts about naval defence last week and seen a sample of its realities aboard tho Revenge on Saturday, tho, Piime Ministors spent a moro or less informal morning at the War Office, but the discussion, except for India, had not tho same intimate appeal as that which attached tol naval affairs.
