"IN THE AIR"

LEAGUE MEMBER.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —After reading the letter of Mr. John Castle, J.P., in your columns I found myself exclaiming, in the language of Bret Hare, "Are there visions about?" Mr. Castle is very much in the air with regard to the Civic League 'and its secretary. The idea of soliciting deputations is a figment of the writer's over-heated imagination. Besides, what is it all about? There is room for different opinions on the Zoo —why. get heated over it? Of course, if the electors had voted Mr. Castle into the City Council there would be no business bungles. Perhaps the fault is with him. Had he only made these disclosures about the Civic League, the S.P.C.A., the bear, etc., at election time, he might have been higher up the "poll." Everybody will admire his heroic courage in rescuing the poor bear from a box. Unfortunately he'is not able to tell us what the bear thought of being put in a box in the first instance. As a candidate for public favour he seems to be putting himself in the box in place of the bear. A little less of the high and mighty tone from Mr. John Castle would be more appreciated than his attempts to lecture all and sundry from whom he difiers.— I am, etc.,
