(To the Editor.) Sir, —It is good to see that someone lias brought the notice of ratepayers to the fact of the -waste* of public money now going on by virtue of the apparent lack of co-ordination between executive heads of our civic departments. Mr. Wilso» is deserving of credit for his courage in demanding an inquiry into the whole position of affairs, as is reflected in the matter of one department laying down expensive bitumen and another department tearing it up. We have learned authoritatively nevertheless, that City Councillors themselves now s;je the folly of their ways, and intend reverting to the previous policy of one supreme head. This, however, is merely a plea of "guilty" on their part to '' sins of omission t.nd comission," the extent of which will never be known without a public inquiry. By all means, let our civic heads submit themselves to the interrogation of representatives of those whose finance has been thus used, and let the public know the position and the causes. —I am, etc.,
