ATTEMPT TO DEFRAUD
ALLEGED ISSUE OF VALUELESS CHEQUES.

HASTINGS, 26th August. Lionel Bishop was charged at Court this morning with intent to defraud. It was alleged that at Hastings on 6th June he obtained from Bertram Alexander. Hanson a motor-car valued at £58 and oil and benzine valued at &2 by means of a valueless cheque for £GO, and further, on 19th August, at Martpn, obtained £2 19s 6d from Malcolm M'Conachio by means of a valueless cheque. On tho latter charge the accused pleaded not guilty and was remanded to appear at Palmerston North next Monday. On the former charge he also pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court at Napier. Bail was allowed in both cases.
