NEWTOWN
About 40 householders attended the Newtown meeting, Mr. J. W. Salmon presiding. The report (extracts of which have already been published) was read by the secretary .(Mr. E. A. Eyres) and adopted. The headmaster (Mr.- J. F. Thu.rston), in his report, suggested that if teachers who did good work were given an annual increase they would not only prefer to remain, instead .of seeking promotion elsewhere, but the work oi the school would benefit. A resolution submitted by the School Committees' Association urging: free distribution .in bulk of' stationery . was unanimously carried.' , , . , .The committee was elected as follows:— Mrs.'S: H. Sihdall (SI), Mr. J. W. Salmond (31), Mrs. S. H. Irons (29), Mr A T. Brunette (28), Mr. H. J.-Barley (27), Mr. W. B. Bradley (27), Mr. .J. Francis (26), Mr. J. H. Gilchrisf 5(25).: "Mrsl" F. E. Wright (22), Mr T. Grimshaw (22). As only nine were required, a ballot was taken of the tie, Mrs. Wright, being elected ._by one vote. Mr. J. W. Salmon'was elected chairman. A vote of confidence 'in the headmaster and staff was carried unanimously.
