MR. FORSYTH AT KILBIRNIE

Mr. T., Forsyth, . Reform candidate for Wellington East, addressed a wellattended meeting last night at South Kilbirnie, when Mr. J. J. Clark prosided. The candidate dealt first with the planks in the Reform Party's platform, and outlined the Prime Minister's manifesto, asking the electors to return Mr. Coates and his party with n working majority, so that their liberal and progressive policy might be continued. He also dealt with the question of pensions, saying that in every case the Reform Party had increased the allowance. In reference to taxation he quoted the following figures:—ln 1912 the total amount of taxation revenue was 5£ millions, of which about 3^ millions came through Customs, whereas in 1925 that revenue was 16j millions, and the amount of Customs revenue amounted to 84- millinns. These figures clearly indicated that during the term of office the percentage of total taxation derived from Customs duty was reduced by nearly 40 per cent.

The candidate answered questions for about half an hour, and at the close a motion of thanks, and confidence was carried.
