The plain and fancy dress dance held on Wednesday night in the Assembly Hall, Rangiuru, was a huge success. The hall had been tastefully decorated for the occasion by the ladies of the club. The euchre tournament, run in conjunction with the function, proved enjoyable. Miss Whiteman ' and Mr.. Ray Bills were the prize winners. For the dance the Rangiuru Orchestra supplied fine music, while extras wero played by Miss Rikiharia and Mr. R. Penman. The prizes for the prettiest dress was won by Mrs. W. Griffiths (rose), while for the most original costume Miss Griffith (Rangiuru Tennis Courts) recured the trophy. Mrs. M'Gill and Mrs. A. Freeman officiated as judges. Mr. H. Knox was an efficient M.C.i and Mr. C. G. Jones a capable secretary.
At a general meeting of the Rangiuru Tennis Club it was decided to purchase a section of land from Mr. E. Hopkins and put down another court, so as to meet the growing membership. The work will be proceeded with at once.
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
The public inquiry into shunting conditions at the Palmerston North railway station yard, which was adjourned owing to the presence fcf Mr. M. J. Mack being required in Wellington, will probably be continued on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Tlie trustees of the Lissie Rathbone estate have made an unrestricted donation of £250 towards the All Sainis' children's homes. The money will probably bo principally 1 applied to the .liquidation of the debt on the new All Saints' beach home at Foxton.
A successful jumble sale was conducted by St. Paul's Ladies' Guild, when the sum of £35 was raised. The stallholders were as follow:—Jumble, Mesdames Barnett, G. IT. Bennett, Rowling, and Sinclair; sweets, Sister May, Mesdames G. Bennett and Newman, Misses Stiles and' Cunninghame; cakes, Mesdames M'Kay and Rumble; plain and fancy goods, Mesdames Louden, Harris, and Burd; produce, Mesdames Pacey, Pratt, Cunninghame, and Butzbach; bran tub, Misses Cunninghame and Pacey; afternoon tea, Mesdames Teale and Ellery and Miss Timmins. The sale was officially opened by the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt.
