PARAMOUNT THEATRE.
"The Great White Way," which opened at the Paramount Theatre to-day, is the latest million-dollar film from the Hearst studio. It is a pot-pourri of the high lights of sport, the stage, and Broadway during the past year. It can best be-compared to the musical comedy revue, having the added features of the personal appearance of celebrities. It is staged with a lavish hand. There are pretty girls, in fact'the entire Zie^eld Follies chorus,, with Ned Wayburn showing the way. There is a prize-fight, just like the real thing. Then we are introduced to a number of personages who have_ been made famous by the Hearst publications^ or who have made the Hearst publications famous. They include Arthur Brisbane, who demonstrated his versatility as an actor; Billy De Beck, originator of "Barney Google" and "Spark Plug," and the better known sports writers and cartoonists of those far-reaching papers. The story was written by H. C. Witwer, and concerns Cain and Mabel, characters he hap made popular through his stories. Cain is a prize-fighter an^ Mabel is the leading lady in a Broadway musical comedy. A press a?ent, and a convincing one at that, brings about a romance. Oscar Shaw, who playe Cain, seems to be a real leather pusher, and he went into training for three months before he could undertake the part. Anita Stewart plays Mabel. T. Roy Barnes, as the enterprising press agent, furnishes most of the laughs. Others in the cast are Tom Lewis, Olin Howland, Dore Davidson, Hal Forde, and Stanley Fnrde. The supporting programme involves a splendid comedy and the latest Gazette. The Pnrmount Orchestra will render a specially arranged musical programme. The box plan is at the.
