MOTOR ACCIDENTS
SERIOUS SMASH AT THORNDON
A serious motor i smash occurred at 11.50 o'clock last evening in front of tho tram sheds at Thorndon, when George Ryan, a taxi-driver, sustained severe injuries to his head. It appears that enr No. 31 was standing outside the shods, when a bix taxi driven by Ryan crashed into it. Ryan, who was rendered unconscious, was taken to the Hoa-. pital, after having been treated by Dr. Pattie. He is a widower, about thirty years of age, and lives at 198, Tinakori road. At the t'inie of the accident the lights were on the car, but just prior to that R. Green, the conductor, had reversed the .trolley-pole, during which process the light would be off. The inotorman was G. Peacock, who at the time of the mishap was walking through the tram, and was nearly thrown off by the force of the impact. On inquiry being made at the Hospital this afternoon it was learned that there was no change in Ryan's condition, which was regarded as being serious. A married man named Charles Mersin, 54 years of age, who lives at 29, Featherston terrace was knocked down by a motor-car in Grant road last evening. He sustained a broken leg, and was admitted to the Hospital at 9.30 o'clock. To-day he was reported to be progressing as well as could be expected. As the result of the motor-cycle he was riding orashing into a tramcar in Lambton quay yesterday afternoon, Thomas William Page, a single man, 38 years of age, sustained injuries to .his knee and was taken to the Hospital about 5 o'clock. The injured, man, who resides at 9, Ingestre place, is reported to be progressing favourably.
