LODGE MEETINGS

An important meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge of Oddfellows, M.tj., was held on Tuesday evening, when there was an excellent attendance. Bro. Johns, N.G.,/was the presiding , officer. One new member was duly initiated. Bro. Smith forwarded his resignation as War-, den, and Bro. A. V. Cooke was elected to fill the office. TBe officers and members of Loyal Britannia Lodge wero received officially. Bro. T. C. Powell, P.P.G.M., one of tho senior trustees, unveiled two photographs, hung in the lodge room, of the late Bros. John Smith, P.G.M., and 0. Daly, P.P.G.M. In an impressive manner ho referred, to the late brothers' service to their lodge. The late Bro. John Smith joined the lodge in 1858. He acted as trustee for 40 years, arid held every offico the lodge could bestow on him. He was also in. tho District Lodge, and on the board of directors for New Zealand,- holding the offico of Grand Master for New Zealand. He died in 1921. The late Bro. 0. Daly joined tho lodge in 1875. He acted as trustee for 28 years, and died in 1922. The lodge trustees presented Bro. B. Smith with a photograph of tho old lodgo property on Lambton quay, as a memento of the strenuous tunes that Bro: Smith had put in when the building was first used as a lodgo' room. Bro. Smith replied. Bro. J. J. Webb, P.P.G.M., who is about to visit Australia, was granted a letter of recommendation. Lodge honours were accorded to Bros. Maguire, a very old member of the Original Loyal Wellington Lodge, Langley (Masterton), and Taylor (Napier), as visitors. It was reported that one, of the-oldest members.,of the lodge in Bro. F, Buck, 65 yoars a member of the lodge, had died, and in respect members stood for a moment in silence.

The fortnightly meeting of the Newtown Alpha Branch No. 1, G.U.Q.0.F., was held last Wednesday evening, Bro. E. Topp, N.G., presiding. One new member was nominated and one was transferred from Miramar Lodge. Bro. Dundy und Bro. J. J. Heppleslon,P.N.G., us delegates of the lodge to the Medical Instilulo, reported on a recent meeting. Bro. W. Gilmour, V.G., was elected to the Medical Institute, and Bros. J. J. Heppleskm, P.N.G., and W. Martin, P.N.G.. were elected as delegates of tho branch for the next Grand Lodgo conference.
