SUCCESS OF SPRING SHOW

PLANS FOE THE FUTURE.

A meeting of the general committee of the Wellington Horticultural Society j was held in No. 1 Committee Room, Town Hall, last evening to consider the statement prepared by the secretary in regard to the Spring Show, also to make arrangements for holding the Rose or Summer Show in the Town Hall on 19th | November. Mr. H. A. Fox, chairman j of the committee, presided over a large attendance of members. The report regarding the Spring Show showed a record in every direction, ni the number of entries, door takings, and exhibitors from a distance. The chairman congratulated the members on the success of the show, and'remarked upon the interest shown by the public in the society's functions. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman and secretary, with Messrs. George Clarke, D. Wall, and T. Waugh, was set up to revise the schedule where required for the next Spring Show.' Owing to the impossibility of staging the numbers of exhibits coming forward on the morning of the show in time for. tho judging, it was decided that in future a charge of Is per entry will be made on all entries coming forward on show day, ordinary entries to ■ close at 5 o'clock on the afternoon before the show. An offer by Miss R-. M. Joseph of a trophy valued at £5 ss, to be allocated at the committee's discretion, was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to award the trophy to the suburban society gaining most points in the Aut- I umn Show, and that it should be known as the Rose Joseph Suburban Trophy. _ The question of the suburban competitions was introduced by Mr. L. Sievers, who asked for a ruling from the General Committee as to whether. it was a district or a society competition. After considerable discussion, it was decided on the motion of Messrs. D. Wall and H. Baillie, that all flowers for the competition must be grown within Greater Wellington, but that nothing should be done to interfere with the membership of the various societies. The secretary was instructed to write to a number of -horticulturists to see if they would be available as judges at the next show. Mrs.^George Johnson offered to take charge of a flower, cake, and sweet stall at the Rose Show, and the suburban ladies, with Mesdam.es Underwood and Russell, as joint conveners of the afternoon and evening tea rooms. The offer was accepted,, all members present'offering to assist. An offer from one of tho inland towns to put up a comprehensive exhibit from their society, if granted space, was accepted. The exhibit, it was stated, would bo representative of their district, an<£ -they would forward all vases, and also supply all labour required for staring, etc. _ Mr. Green having spoken on the question, it was decided to support the movement for a Federation of the Horticultural Societies of tho Dominion. A sub-committee was appointed to visit the St. Thomas' Society to present the cups and medals won at the spring show. Accounts and prize money, totalling £112, were passed for payment.
