Esses in the second innings added 49 in sixty-seven minutes, Douglas making 40. The South Africans had a difficult task on a wearing wicket, which troubled the batsmen. No tea adjournment was taken. Douglas bowled on the leg theory to keep the runs down, l>ut P. A. M. Hands played an aggressive innings- for 64. The finish was exciting. When. J. J. Bissett, the last man,' went in 31 runs were required. Bissett made ■24 in eight hits in eight minutes, including a sixer, and made 12 off the last three balls, just beating the clock.
