LONDON, 21st June. There was fine weather and three thousand people were present at the opening of the South Africans' match against Hampshire, at Southampton The wicket .was easy. Tennyson won the toss and batted, and when stumps were drawn his side were all out for 279 (J. Newman 58, H. L. V. Day 100). Day gave several chances, but played a vigorous, straight-driving innings, and hit eleven i's, batting for 191 minutes. Blanckenberg took six wickets for 121.

The South Africans have lost two wickets for 63.
