GENERAL MANAGER HANDS MAYOR HIS RESIGNATION.

Mr. R. B. Witty, who has occupied the office of general manager to the Eastbourne Borough . Council, since March, 1922, this morning, tendered his resignation to the Acting-Mayor (Mr H. W. Shorfct). " Last evening a meeting of _ the council was held to deal with general borough' matters, and especially to consider ferry matters, and subjects relating to water, drainage^ and sanitation. Councillors sat at their deliberations till a late hour. A poll^in regard to the installation of water ' and drainage is to take place shortly on a scheme submitted by Professor Montgomerie Neilson. The Act-ing-Mayor is to give an address on the subject in the Crown Theatre next Tuesday'evening. The dual scheme of water and drainage is estimated to involve an outlay of about £42,C00. An election is to take place this month to fill a. vacancy caused by the resignation of Councillor'C. Bowden, who is now resident on the city side of the harbour. There does not appear to be a great deal of eagerness amongst residents to occupy a seat at the council table, and so far only Messrs. W. ~R. Comrie, secretary of the Eastbourne Fire Brigade, and S. F. Fisher, a local builder, have been spoken of as possible candidates. .
