UNION FINED £25

LYTTELTON WATERSIDERS' PICNIC

"WEAK AND INCREDIBLE

STATEMENT."

(BT TEI.EOHAPII.--PRKSS ASSOCIATION.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. . A penalty of £25' and costs was imposed upon .the Lyttelton Watersiders' Union by the Magistrate, Mr. H. Y. Widdowson, in his reserved judgment relating to the watersiders' picnic which was held on a recent Monday in face of the employers' protest, following on its postponement from the date originally fixed. The Magistrate commented strongly on the weak and incredible statement made in the course of the evidence as to the inability of the union officials to influence the men: He said that actions spoke louder than words, and no doubt the secretary had influenced men not to work who would have bten willing to work on picnic day.
