THE PRESBYTERY

NEW CHURCH BUILDINGS.

The Wellington Presbytery met last evening, the Moderator, the Rev. Dr Uibb, presiding. A call by a majority of the Upper Mutt congregation in favour of the Rev James Holmes, was sustained. The induction service is to be held on 29th April by the Moderator. The resignation of the Rev. J M Thomson from the charge of the Island Bay Church was accepted, and the Rev Mr. Baird was appointed in his stead A petition was presented by the Kent Terrace Church seeking permission to borrow an additional £500 for the purpose of completing, the purchase of an adjoining house and section and for the erection of new Sunday School rooms. It was explained that the Presbytery had already sanctioned a loan of £4500 It was estimated that the total cost of the work would be £6000, exclusive of expenditure upon furnishings. The loan was approved, the. security to be the present site and building. A report was made upon the plans of the new Kilbirnie Church, which is to cost £1700. Presbytery resolved to congratulate the congregation upon the fact that it had £1300 in hand, and that with the aid of other sums promised the building would be opened practically free of debt.
