CHINA SUPERSEDED

IN LEAGUE COUNCIL ELECTION.

■ (Beceived Ist October, 2.15 p.m.) GENEVA, 20th September. The election of C/.echo-Slovakia instead of China as one of. the six non-perman-ent members of the Council of tho .League for % cfiauinj £e»r^£bic£ jj»»

due to the activity of the Czecho-Slo-vakian representative, Dr. Benea, on the Reduction of Armaments Committee, led to a protest by the Chinese Delegation, which complains that the principle of the geographical distribution of nonpermanent members is not respected and the Council deprived of the co-operation of at least one Asiatic State. It fears that the Far-Eastern States may be discouraged, and hopes that possible consequent lack of interest in the League in China will not change into temporary, or even permanent, abstention, which would be most regrettable in the interests of all.
