PROTECTIVE TARIFF
NO PANACEA FOR DEPRESSION.
(Received Ist- October, 3 p.m.) Th xr L01?D0N, 30th September. The National Association of Wool and Textile Trade Unions discussed a proposal by a section of employers for a protective tariff on imported woollen cloth, and passed a resolution declaring their unbelief in a system of protective tariffs as a, panacea for unemployment in the textile trade. The resolution urged an immediate inquiry by a committee representing employers and . employees, and the consuming public into the causes of the depression.
