PING-PONG CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men's singles and the men's doubles in. the Wellington Ping-Pong-Championships were commenced last night in the V.M.C.A. rooms, there being a large. attendance. The competitors were divided into six sections in the singles, and two sections in the doubles, and the section winners will play off next Friday night, when the ladies singles, ladies' doubles, and combined doubles will bo played. Some interesting games were played, and the standard of play was higher than in the championships last year, there being an all-round. improvement. In the singles, M'Kinnon, BevthoH, Tuely, L Smith, Shadbolt, and C. F. Williams were the section winners, In the doubles, the remaining pairs are L. Smith and Barrow v. Mulhane and Williams. An invitation has been received from the Winter Sports Club, Masterton, for the winners of the men's singles, men's doubles, and ladies* singles championships here to go to Masterton on tlis Ist September, and play the winners of the Wairaraprt. championships, which are now in progress.
