THE POLLING STAFF.
Last night's meeting of the. Labour Representation Committee carried the following resolution, with reference to polling staffs at the' coming elections:— "The meeting views with concern the action, of the City Council in deciding to place an excessive number of issues before the electors and ratepayers on polling day, and points to the fact that in previous years the capacity. of. the staff and the polling booth have, been taxed to their utmost capacity. Tho larger number of questions to be submitted on this occasion would render both polling staff and booth totally inadequate, and consequently there is a danger that in addition to the inevitable confusion many electors would bo denied an opportunity of voting. This meeting, therefore, calls upon the council to provide and increase the number of booths to ensure that the work will be properly carried out, or alternatively appoint the day following the election, or some other day, for the taking of the ratepayers' poll on the loan prposals."
