AMATEUR ATHLETICS

Next Saturday's athletic meeting ■will be the last open meeting of the season to be conducted by a club affiliated to the Wellington Centre. The very large entries received are a good indication that the enthusiasm 6f the athletes is as keen as ever. All the Wellington cracks will be competing in a programme that includes every event of the championship programme except the 440 yds flat, which has been purposely omitted in order not to interfere with the interprovin-, cial clubs' relay. Very keen competition is expected in the secondary and primary schools' events for the Blundell cups and in the women's relay. Every one of the men's events will have a double interest, for on the decision of which will depend the destination of one or other of the Wellington Club's fine challenge cups. The Wellington public seldom has reason to complain of vacant intervals during the afternoon. On Saturday there will be less cause for complaint than ever. The display of tabloid athletics by the Senior Cadets, scheduled to take place during the running of the three miles flat, will fill in a good twenty minutes. The first event is scheduled for 2.15 p.m.
