(CT TB&GRAPH.-4SPKCUL ,TO THB POST.) . OTAIQ, This Day. The garden party on j Thursday to raise- fields for a soldiers' memorial was a great success, the being large. {The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Brandon), in a happy speech, opened proceedings. He referred to tlie excellent work done by the Natives in the past, commended them for their present move, and wished them all success. Then the "busy bees" got to work, and the various stalls, etc., were freely patronised. The -transformation of the grounds by the planting of lovely tree-ferns, nikau palms, cabbage trees, etc., was greatly appreciated. In the evening a dance was held, and the raukawa was packed. Tho decorations were very effective. Yesterday the "busy bees" "were again at work, and there was a fine gathering.
A telephone exchange is likely to be installed at Paraparaumu at an early date. .' 1 .
Messrs. 'Bird Bros.' sawmill plant at Manakau has been bought by Mr. Kusebs and taken to Rotorua.
