HOSPITAL AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE BOARD,
The Wellington Hospital Board held its monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon, Mr. F..Castle presiding. . Other members present were: Messrs. J. .W. Butler, C. H. Chapman, W.-.T. Cotton, J. Glover, Aj.. R. Hornblow, C. M. Luke. A. J. M'Curdy, J. W. M'Ewan, G. Nash, G. Petherick, S. H. Underwood, and B. :Vine,- the Bey. Dr. J. K. Elliott, and Mesdames M'Vicar and Snow. '■'.■■ Accounts amounting to £9757 4s Id were passed for payment. A return for the month showed the fund account to have a balance of £9952 11s 7d. The cost of running various sections of the Hospital during last month wa« shown to be as/follows: —Ewart Hospital, £269 16s; Fever Hospital, £330 3s Id; Nurses' Home, £601 10s 4d; laundry, £3811sl0d. . Accounts in connection with the social welfare work amounting to £1318 9s 6d were ptssed for payment. On tbe recommendation of the Finance, Property, and Policy Committee, it was decided that the chairman of the board bepaid, by way of remuneration of his services, th« sum of £100 per annum in •accordance with the provision contained in. the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Act, 1920.* It was decided to invite applications for tho position of assistant dental.surgeon at £450 per annum. . In order to effect a sale, the. upset price on property at Johnsonville in the estate of the late Mrs. Frances Guilford -'was reduced fx-om £1050 to £850. -Authority was given for—(a) Purchasing a standard electric.,drill for the engineer's workshop (£30); (b) painting ward 111 and removing the wall ventilators ; (c) obtaining 100 pinus insignis and 100 special rose trees, if procurable, the former from the Forestry Department and the lattev from the City Corporation. '•.. In order to take advantage of the reduced rate sales,, authority was given the matron to purchase Christmas goods and toys up to £40. ' ' ■ • . The average number of patients under treatment last month was 365. At the beginning of this week there were 369 patients. Casee of diphtheria totalled 11, infantile paralysis 14, and venereal disease 15. There were J2B patients (13 male and 15 femal£) in the Ewart Hos: pital for consumptives; and 27 inmates (19 scarlet'fever) of the Fever Hospital. It waii decided to invite application? for a. part-time officer (radiologist) at a salary of £600 per annum.
