Domestic coal has been practically unprocurable in Wellington for some weeks past, but a ( little relief is now in sight. The Komata, now discharging, has on board 600 tons of coal which will be released for domestic purposes in the city proper. This is the first release of household coal for three weeks. The Kamona, now at Miramar, has 350 tons of domestic coal, which will be discharged at the city wharves on Friday. This release of 950 tons is not sufficient to fulfil orders already in hand. It is estimated that the coal requirements of Wellington City and Suburbs total 2000 tons per week. 1
The position in the country districts is even worse than in the city. Country people are feeling the pinch badly just now, mainly because of the .interruption in the Huntly supplies. However, the Waipori, due from the West Coast on Friday, has a full cargo, which will be released for Petone, Hutt, Onslow, and country districts.
