RECORD PRICES FOR AUCKLAND,

AUCKLAND, 23rd March,
Record prices for Auckland were realised at the hide sales to-day, a small parcel of stout ox hides bringing 2s 3d per lb. The price fixed by the Government for similar hides prior to the adoption of. new regulations'as'.to'sale wasls ljd. Prices for good'cow''"', hides ranged from Is 8d to 2s o£d per ib. Country butchers' ox hides realised as much, as 2s per lb, and cowhides lg'lOd. Calfskins sold as high as 4s per lb. Very heavy catalogues were 'submitted including a large percentage of freezing Works', hides. Experts expressed the opinion that tEe.. selection was the largest and best that had been offered in Auck T land for some years. Under , the new regulations tanners have a preemptive right to take whatever hides they require at the price determined at the sales. This right was freely exercised, tanners claiming nearly all the lots offered after exporters had bid up to their limit.
